The Happy Hedges quilt pattern is a traditionally pieced design made up of four bold, repeating quadrants. Inspired by the playful energy of garden hedges in full bloom, this design combines crisp geometry with vibrant color to create a quilt that’s as fun to make as it is to admire.Whether you’re stitching for a loved one or adding a splash of happiness to your own space, this pattern is sure to make you smile.

Happy Hedges – The Morning in the Garden Version
Happy Hedges: Morning in the Garden version, inspired by soft morning light and the fresh energy of a blooming garden. My grandfather grew the most beautiful rows of roses—perfect, fragrant, and somehow always upright (unlike mine). The sweet smell still takes me back to warm summer afternoons in his garden. Inspired by that memory, I recently tried my own hand at rose-growing… and let’s just say, it’s way harder than it looks. Turns out roses don’t thrive on good intentions alone.
While nothing beats a fresh-cut bloom in a vase, they only stick around for a short season. That’s why I made the Happy Hedges quilt—because these blooms never wilt, and the garden vibes can live on your couch (or bed, or wall) year-round. Bring a little summer inside—no watering required!

Happy Hedges – The Blue Skies Version
The Blue Skies version of the Happy Hedges quilt was born out of my current (and possibly permanent) obsession with cobalt blue. I’ve been itching to sneak it into my quilt sample collection, and this pattern gave me the perfect excuse—er, I mean, opportunity.
This version was stitched up by the incredibly talented Brooke, one of my superstar pattern testers, and honestly? I’m obsessed. It’s bold, it’s happy, it’s giving “blue skies forever” energy. Safe to say, this won’t be the last time cobalt crashes one of my quilt parties.

The Fabrics – Ruby & Bee Solids
Let’s talk fabric—because let’s be real, a quilt is only as fabulous as the fabric you feed it. I always stick with Ruby and Bee Solids by Windham Fabrics that I purchase through Hawthorne Fabrics because they carry all the colors, all the time, and let me tell you, they’re more dependable than my morning coffee. Their color card set is basically the quilter’s equivalent of a superpower—70 swoon-worthy shades all neatly packed into a box that’s become the MVP of my studio.
Whether we’re dreaming up new colorways or finalizing a pattern sample, this little box of joy is always within arm’s reach. Honestly, if you’re serious about solids, this is one studio investment you won’t regret.

The Quilting
Quilting is like the jewelry of the quilt—the final touch that pulls everything together. For these two Happy Hedges samples, I took very different approaches, and I have to admit… the Blue Skies version in the end, was my favorite. NAME OF PATTERN HERE and quilter
For the Morning in the Garden version, I went with Zooby Rad by Julie Hirt a textural, dense, geometric pantograph pattern. It’s clean, classic, and lets the piecing shine without stealing the spotlight. Sometimes, less really is more!
Yes, I used 80/20 batting again. And no, I’m not even pretending to branch out at this point. It’s like my favorite sweatpants —reliable, comfy, and always makes me feel just right. Why mess with a good thing? It quilts beautifully, washes like a dream, and gives the perfect amount of cozy without turning your quilt into a sauna. So yes, it’s a trusted fave!

Colorways – Something for everyone
Let’s talk colorways—because committing to just one? Nearly impossible. I always go a little wild testing out different combos before landing on “the one.”
